I was hired by creator Meg McCarthy to animate her 5.5 minute short film titled “Lint Eastwood and the Case of the Missing Sock”. Our collaboration began with character design I fashioned on Meg’s vision of numerous sock personalities. She had envisioned a different style for each of the characters such as the sexy pantyhose named Pam and the Jersey shore style gym sock named Arnold. For backgrounds, camera direction and atmosphere she wanted film noir with dark, smoky rooms. A storyboard was created by myself and artist Paul Gil who then built the characters in Illustrator. The backgrounds were constructed using Google SketchUp, a 3D architecture program. Snapshots were then taken from various angles within the 3D rooms and then styled and finished in Photoshop. I animated the film entirely in After Effects. Editing and sound by James Johenning in Final Cut. The film is making the festival circuit and up for consideration at several festivals including the Santa Barbara Film Festival and South by South West.

Youtube and a surprising number of other video sites refuse to keep the trailer for this video online due to the subject matter. Amazon has taken down the On-Demand version as well. However this is a documentary, the making of bondage videos and the people who make their living in this unique industry. It’s a fascinating and rare look behind the scenes of a culture that is so taboo, anything portraying it’s content is apparently banned immediately. The trailer is quite tame and can be seen at www.docu-fetish.com. There are also a few clips from the documentary available. The documentary was screened at the 2010 Valley Film Festival in Los Angeles.
